Saturday 14th June and Sunday 15th June. Ashton Court Mansion open weekend.
Free exhibition. Ground floor rooms open with a free exhibition showing images, documents and research findings about the history of the Mansion, the Estate and the people who lived and worked there. A student made film will be shown in the vaulted hall highlighting aspects of the Mansion's history - past & present. Please come in - wander round and view our exhibition. We have discovery trails for children, and the fabulous retro 1980s bar will be open serving tea, coffee and soft drinks.
After the successful launch of our Tour talks in March, our June open days will include:
Tour talks. Bookable: £5
A 40 minute video tour showing the derelict upstairs rooms (previously part of the Dereliction tour), with in-person explanations by Juliet or Lynne, our Ashton Court tour guides.
Saturday 14th June 12pm & 2pm 'Tour talk' tickets
Sunday 15th June 12pm & 2pm 'Tour talk' tickets
The trouble with Ashton Court. Or, how on earth did we get here?". Bookable: £5
We will look at 700 years of surviving buildings and some of the past owners & occupiers, using drawings, paintings & plans. We also show many views of unseen indoor demolitions & failing fabric & take a different look at the parkland around. Finally, we look to the future but consider some of the past impediments to redevelopment. Illustrated talk. 50 mins
Saturday 14th June 11am 'The trouble with Ashton Court' tickets
Sunday 15th June 11am 'The trouble with Ashton Court' tickets
Walking tour of the outside of the Mansion (weather permitting). Bookable: pay what you can
Join FAM on a tour around the outside of the mansion buildings, learning about the changes to the ‘Castle Court’ that once enclosed the medieval heart of the manor, and the Regency Gothic makeover which replaced windows of the Elizabethan manor, still visible at the back. The more well-known south and east facing buildings also include many changes that go back to the 1600s.
Dress for the weather on the day with shoes to cope on slopes, gravel paths & steps. We will try to adapt routes to people’s mobility. If the weather is bad we can adapt to an indoor tour.
Max. 50 mins
Saturday 14th June 1pm 'Outside tour' tickets
Sunday 15th June 1pm 'Outside tour' tickets
Peek through the Portal. Donations welcomed.
Pass through the time portal to catch a glimpse of the derelict first floor as seen from the great staircase. A FAM volunteer will be on hand to explain what you can see and when we think the dereliction began. Hard hats mandatory.
Saturday and Sunday. Peeks on demand throughout both days.

Update October 2024
A fall of ceiling plaster onto one of our walkways means that we have suspended hard hat tours for the forseeable future. We are looking at new ways to show our visitors the derelict upper floors.
Images of the derelict upper floors can be found here.
