A CENTURY OF CONTRASTING WORLDS
The Timeline looks at the lives and events in the 50 years or so before and after
the building of the Ashton Gatehouse.
We look at 3 zones of life:
the privileged business and private lives of the Smyths at Ashton court;
the sometimes wretched events and lives of local men, women and children living beyond the walls of Ashton Court
and the often indifferent or reactionary national and public world.
It was a revolutionary time of much social, political and technical change and some lasting legacies.
