SERVANTS ASHTON COURT

Hopefully the new servant quarters on the upper floors of the SE Wing improved conditions for the servants who lived there. But life at Ashton Court reflected the wider world and only staff higher up in the pecking order got the good rooms.

The more cramped conditions of the attic floors meant little light or ventilation for the servants on this floor who were locked in at night.
