THE STAIRS

1. THE BLOCKED DOORWAY

At the bottom of the stairs on the right side, is a narrow blocked doorway with a pre 1600s arch. If we assume this is original to its location, it looks like an entry to a small stone staircase from the Great Hall to an upper floor.

2. THE STONE FEATURE

The stone feature, bottom left, is more probably contemporary with the staircase in 1885 and comparable to others further up the stairs.

3. THE WINDOW FACING THE WEST PORCH

The window facing the courtyard entrance has 2 painted heraldic images which together with others around the mansion are the subject of study by FAM volunteers.

4. THE WINDOW FACING THE PARKLAND

The window facing SW into the parkland and main approach road to the mansion is elaborately decorated with coloured glass and painted heraldic images. It is a near complete 19th century copy of the stone tracery15th century Perpendicular window of the Inner Hall. Apart from the glass, see if you can spot the difference.
